How Can I Be Creative With God?

How can I be creative with God

Any time you can spend time with God is a good time to spend time with Him. The Creator of the world and all that is in it had given people the ability to do Art and be creative.

He made man in His own image.

Genesis 1:27

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Why is it so hard for us humans to believe that part of the “image of God” could also include creative abilities.

God calls us to love Him with all of our heart, soul, mind and strength. God wants your all and that included your art and creativity. We would love to help you find God given creativity in our Bible and Art Lessons- Connecting Art with the HeART.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10

You are a part of God's masterpiece

How I can be creative with God

Art can encompass so much more than drawing and painting. God has given creativity to all people. It just looks different and can come in various forms and amounts. Art is a way to express the heART in a creative way.

Creativity can be expressed in artistic ways such as :

  • drawing
  •  painting,
  • sculpting
  • dancing
  • music
  • singing
  • poetry
  • sewing
  • cooking
  • baking
  • building
  • designing
  • gardening

…and many more wonderful creative abilities!

How can you be creative with God?

Spend time talking to Him while you apply your creativity to something that glorifies the Creator. Thank Him for the details of this world that give us endless inspiration and find ways to share your art with others to open conversations about the Lord.

Give God your heart and watch how it changes your Art.

What if I'm not creative?

watercolors to be creative

You know that saying, ‘If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard that I’d be rich?

We’d be rich rich rich!

Now before you say, “I’m not creative”, hold on. You have a brain.

God made the human brain so complex, that scientist are still trying to understand it. In its simplest form, the brain has two sides, a left and a right with a bridge between the two. Logic is at home in the left side and Creativity resides in the right side. You have a right brain but you sa

“I don’t have a creative bone in my body!”

Not possible! Creativity does not generate in your bones, it comes from the right side of your brain! You were created by a creative God. Chances are, you have just not tapped into your creative powers.

Creativity is a gift we all possess in different forms and abilities. You can use creativity to design, paint, draw and build but you also use creativity to solve problems and invent new ideas or tweak another. You have two sides of your brain and you use them both…. logic and creativity.

“I am not as creative as ________________!”

You’re not supposed to be!

You are unique with your own abilities.

If you work at letting the creativity flow through you, yes, we said work, you will be able to express yourself, your thoughts and your feelings in a way that others can see, hear, feel, taste and smell. It makes the senses come alive for others to enjoy.

Some people are creative with food and recipes while others are creative at Art or design. Some people are creative with planting a garden or playing with children.

You may look at someone else and think, “I can’t do that”.

Well, in the exact instance, that might be so, but perhaps there is something that you are creative at that is different or it may be something that you have to practice to develop.

If we all possessed the same creative expression, how boring the world would be. Creativity in its various forms, inspires us. It keeps us in awe……

Stop comparing your creativity with someone else’s creativity.

Words block creativity

“I don’t know how to find my creativity!”

Not a problem!  Actually, the problem people have, whether they are creative people suffering a block, or people who do not consider themselves to be creative is rooted in an insecurity.

“I can’t, I’m not, I don’t, are just a few of the negative thoughts that will halt creativity.

How big the problem truly is, depends on how much negativity you possess. Determine to change your thoughts, and you will change the way you think about creativity.

Another creative block is telling the left side of the brain to cool it a bit.

See the left side is where you find logic. The left side is also analytical, with numbers and math, science, etc. It is where you look at a painting and it decides if it makes sense or not rather than just enjoying the colors or how it makes you feel.

Those are found on the right side of the brain.

“I’m not sure I have a right side on my brain!”

Not possible! The right side of your brain is an amazing place. It contains the energy of movement, music, colors…etc. Tapping into the right side even if you are a consistent left brain person will only make you better at your left brain activities.

Example, if you love math, listen to music while you work with numbers, they go hand in hand. Music is numbers played out in sound and rhythm.

Baking requires math. Gardening requires knowledge of soil nutrition. Sometimes we have to tell the left brain to stop so that we can play on the right side.

We use both sides of the amazing brain that God has created. Some of us lean more to one side than the other, but if you have a brain, you have the ability to be creative.

We have to find ways to unlock our creativity that is trapped in you.

Words we speak are like the seeds blown from a dandelion. They float in the air a bit, land and then plant in our hearts sprouting and growing into more critical and negative words we believe.

Those negative and critical thoughts and words need to be replaced with words that are pleasing to God.

He sees your value!

Change your negative thoughts into words of affirmation

What do we mean by that? Well, you tell yourself negative thoughts all day long.

“I can’t.”

“I’m not good enough.”

“I’m not creative.”

You can probably list a few more, right?

So if you can speak negative, critical and damaging comments to yourself, you can change them to affirmations.

“I can learn.”

“I can try.”

“I can practice and progress.”

“In Christ I am enough.”

“God sees my value.”

“To God, I am a priceless treasure.”

“My creativity is best when I am _________.”

Change your words to yourself and start being the creative creation that God created!

Bible Art Lesson for the HeART

Why creativity is important

why creativity is important with God

From your fingerprints to your DNA, you are unique. There’s only one you! God has designed you to be fearfully and wonderfully made and given you gifts. Some of that is a natural talent or an inclination to something creative and you have the ability to learn new things.

There are no other creations in nature that can do Art and creativity and also learn new concepts.

Does working in your garden feel more like play time?

Chances are you actually do enjoy creative things you just haven’t realized the connection.

Creativity produces creative thinkers, explorers, troubleshooters, inventors, risk takers, thought provokers, storytellers and an amazing array of visual and audible beauty to experience.

Creativity takes courage- Henri Matisse

We hope you find the inner creative child in you. We want to encourage you and help you find the courage to be creative. Matisse, Van Gogh, Picasso and Monet are just a few of the amazing artist we can be inspired by to be creative.

Whether you are an adult or a child, no matter your age, play! Play with all forms of art supplies, creative toys or items that inspire creativity in you. If Picasso was correct in saying…

“The problem is how to remain an artist when you grow up.”

We can fix the problem!

Play. Imagine. Dream. Create. Try!

If you fail…. try again. Practice makes progress!

Look around you at God’s creation and be inspired…..

One of our favorite teaching days in our Art classes is what we call “Creative Energy Day”. Years ago we decided to give kids the permission to play so that their inner child could be creative. To do this, we bought creative nostalgic toys and items that help anyone remember to play.

You can read all the details in this post on inspiring your kids to creative play. We’ve listed the toys that help our classes and you might see a few from your childhood.

If you want to try out Art supplies to find your creativity, we have created an Art Supply Gift Guide for kids of all ages to explore creativity. We aren’t art supply snobs unless it’s crayons. Then we might tell you it’s worth the extra money to get good crayons. Other than crayons, we use inexpensive art supplies and we use them in creative ways. Use this guide for Birthday, Christmas and holidays to always inspire creativity.
