New Testament Art Ideas for Kids

Day 1 – Jesus the Light & Word

(John 1:1–5 | Matthew 5:14)

Preschool:

  • Light vs Dark Painting: Yellow/white paint on black paper (“Jesus is the Light”).

  • Lantern Craft: Craft a paper lantern with a heart or cross inside for light.

  • Glow Dot Art: Stick glow dots or stars onto dark paper. Display in your room. 

Elementary:

  • Candle Scripture Art: Draw candles with the words “The Light of the World.”

  • Verse Art – John 1:5: Letter art with light rays.

Older Kids/Teens:

  • Chiaroscuro Cross Art: Light emerging from darkness.

  • Word Collage: “Word, Light, Life” typography art.

  • Devotional Journal Spread: Light in Creation to Light in Christ. (John 1)


Day 2 – Jesus the Rock & Foundation

(Matthew 7:24–27 | 1 Corinthians 10:4)

Preschool:

  • Rock Painting: Simple stones painted with crosses or hearts.

  • House-on-the-Rock Collage: Foam or paper shapes.

  • Texture Rubbings: Crayon rubbings over rocks.

Elementary:

  • Foundation Layer Art: Sand + glued stones on card stock.

  • Brick Verse Art: “Build on the Rock.” Paint rocks with verse reminders.

  • Parable Illustration: Wise vs foolish builder.

Older Kids/Teens:

  • Stone Symbol Study: Rock, Cornerstone, Foundation. Lego build a building.

  • Minimalist Cross-on-Stone Art

Day 3 – Parables of Growth & the Kingdom

(Mustard Seed, Sower, Yeast – Matthew 13)

Preschool:

  • Seed Dot Art: Fingerprint seeds growing into plants.

  • Heart Soil Craft: Different textures for soil types. (dried organics)

Elementary:

  • Mustard Seed Magnification Art: Tiny seed to large tree.

  • Sower Storyboard Panels (check out Van Gogh’s the Sower)

Older Kids/Teens:

  • Parable Symbol: Seeds, soil, roots, fruit. Create a collage. 

  • Devotional Art Journal: “Small beginnings, big impact.” Mustard seed. 


Day 4 – Miracles & Power of Jesus

(Fish, Bread, Storms, Healing)

Preschool:

  • Fish Stamp Art: Simple sponge fish.

  • Calm Storm Painting: Blue swirls and waves. (think Starry Night)

Elementary:

  • Miracle Symbols Page: Fish, waves, baskets.

  • Before & After Art Panels: Who someone is before and after Jesus.

  • Faith vs Fear Contrast Art

Older Kids/Teens:

  • Storm & Stillness Watercolor

  • Miracle Map: Where miracles happened.

  • Symbol Devotional Spread: Power, compassion, authority.


Day 5 – Love & the Fruit of the Spirit

(John 13:34 | Galatians 5:22–23)

Preschool:

  • Heart Fruit Trees: Each fruit = kindness, love, joy.

Elementary:

  • Fruit Basket Collage

  • Fruit of the Spirit Wheel

  • Action Art: Draw ways to show love.

Older Kids/Teens:

  • Illustrate the Fruit of the spirit

  • Reflection Journal: Which fruit is growing in you?


Day 6 – The Cross, Resurrection & New Life

(John 19–20 | Romans 6:4)

Preschool:

  • Empty Tomb Craft: Stone rolled away.

  • Cross + Flower Art: Life from death.

  • Sunrise Painting: New life imagery. 

Elementary:

  • The cross story illustration

  • Symbol Page: Cross, stone, light. 

Older Kids/Teens:

  • Minimalist Resurrection Art

  • From Dark to Light Gradient Painting add a cross or illustration


Day 7 – The Church & Following Jesus

(Acts 2 | Matthew 28:19–20)

Preschool:

  • Heart People Craft: Church = people.

  • Footprint Path Art: Following Jesus. Paint bottom of feet and walk on paper.

  • Flame Dot Art: Holy Spirit reminder. 

Elementary:

  • Church Growth Map: Dots spreading outward.

  • Light Sharing Art: Candles passing light.

Older Kids/Teens:

  • Acts Timeline Art

  • Devotional Spread: “Go and Make Disciples.”
