Who God is Bible verses

Bible Verses About Who God Is

There are names that God gave for who He is.

A name designates a title, an identity, a position and a purpose.

What is amazing about each name for God is that it can also identify who we are.

His names are all for us to know and remember because you cannot separate Who God is from what God does in your life. You may cling to these names at different seasons of your life.

● When you are afraid, He is your protector.

● When you are lonely, He is your presence.

● When you are in need, He is your provider.

Names for God

The following names for God are not only a title, but the are the essence of who He is and His relationship with us. We cannot separate who God is from what He does nor can you separate who you are from whose you are. Why? Because He is your God, Father, Love and all you need.

Creator– You are His creation

Father– You are His child

Word– How God communicates with you.

Love– His relationship towards you.

Answers / Provider Only God provides your needs.

To know God as Creator, Father, Word, Love and Answers, we have to go to the source for where this knowledge lives, which is in His Word, the Bible.

To believe God, we have to trust that His Word is His words. That the Bible is truth and this belief is confidence in who He is.

You will find more Bible verses about anything and everything to help you forget not the Lord.

God is faithful.

Believe His Word to be the answers to all your life needs.

To receive God, we have to step out in faith knowing and believing that He is God, His Word is our guide and that He is with us.

Hold on to faith and walk in His footsteps holding Him close to you. Hold tight and walk in Him.

Why we need to remember who God is

O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory above the heavens.

Psalm 8:1

The world needs to be remembering who God is. We know from John 1, that Jesus came into the world He created and the world did not know Him. His own people did not believe Him. Still today, many do not receive Him as their Savior.

Why has the world forgotten God?

Evil resides in the world and man chooses to follow pleasures rather than the Creator. When we remember who God is, it reminds us of who we are and our purpose on this earth.

There are 3 key factors about why the world is forgetting its relationship with God. Sadly, today’s world is not much different than the world was in the time of Jesus on earth. For more details read our post from John 1:12 and access our free Bible study.

  • The world does not know God.

  • The world does not believe God.

  • The world does not receive God.

Know Who God is

God is the Creator of the world and all that is in it. He is our heavenly Father, The Word, Love and the answer to everything we could ever need. Let’s Remember the Word together and all that it shares about who God is.

Sometimes, the dictionary lines up in defining a word used in the Bible translations. Sometimes it doesn’t give us the best definition from the Hebrew and Greek languages originally used in the Bible.

For a deeper study of God’s Word, we like to use a Strong’s Concordance to better understand the meanings of the words used in the verses.

Webster's Dictionary

know: to perceive or understand as fact or truth; to apprehend clearly and with certainty: to have established or fixed in the mind or memory to be cognizant or aware of:

believe:
to have confidence in the truth, the existence, or the reliability of something, although without absolute proof that one is right in doing so:

receive:
to receive
to take into one’s possession

Strong's Concordance

know: Ginosko
to learn to know, come to know, get a
knowledge of perceive, feel/ to become
acquainted with, to become known
to know, understand, perceive, have knowledge of

believe: Pisteuo
to think to be true, to be persuaded of, to credit,
place confidence in

receive: Paralambano
to take to, to take with one’s self, to join to one’s self to accept or acknowledge one to be such as he professes to be not to reject, not to withhold obedience

KnowBelieveReceive

The reason the world has forgotten who God is can be summed up by 3 statements.

  •  The world does not take the time to learn more or gain knowledge about God from His Word.

  • The world does not think that God’s Word is true, does not place confidence in Him and does not give Him credit for being the Creator of the heavens and the earth.

  • The world does not take hold of God to itself, accept or acknowledge God, rejects Got and does not obey His Word.

The world needs to be reminded of
Who God is

As Psalm 8:1, states,

“O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.”

The heavens and the earth should know, believe and receive the Creator, who is majestic and unforgettable. After all, it bears His signature and logo, Jesus.

Paul- Son of God- Acts 9:17-21

There was a man named Saul who was a strong worker in the persecution of early Christians. While on his way to persecute more Christians, Jesus appeared to Him in a bright light. Saul would be forever changed in name and belief. You will find his letters to Christians on how to live and who God is in many books the New Testament.

The Disciples– Rabboni, Teacher, Master (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John)

Who God is to those NOT His people

There are those who knew the name of Jesus and even who God was. They called Him by name, but their relationship was much different than those who received Him. They did not want to live a life dedicated to following Him so they rejected Him.

2 possessed with devils and then the swine- Matthew 8:28-34

And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? Art thou come hither to torment us before the time?

Satan/ The Devil/ The Tempter- Matthew 4:1-11

But Satan isn’t new to knowing who God is and choosing to do his own thing. He chose to rebel. Satan chose to not believe God and his number one mission is to make you also not believe Him.

Why?

Because knowing who God is and believing Him means eternal life and living a life dedicated to following Him.

Those who do not choose to receive Him, are choosing to ignore who God is and live their own life…very much like the Devil himself. These people will never truly know who they are because apart from God, we are nothing.

Know Him

Believe Him

Receive Him

That’s how you live a life knowing and showing that you know who God is.
