Turning Art time into faith time

Turning Art Time into Faith Time

What if I teach something wrong theologically?

This fear holds many parents back from even beginning Bible study. We want to give our children the best and most accurate understanding of God’s Word because He is the most important. The beauty of learning about God is we are all learning together. Every day in God’s Word is a new day of learning something new. Even a passage you know by heart can present a new insight.

If you encounter an area of the Bible you are not comfortable answering or presenting, dig deeper, pray, seek God’s guidance, and ask someone you do trust in God’s Word. None of us have all the answers completely correct. If we did, there wouldn’t be quite so many different churches or beliefs that divide rather than unify. But if we are in the Word and seeking God, we can trust He will provide truth and guidance to understand.

Simple solutions:

  • Stick close to Scripture. Let God’s Word lead the lesson.
  • Use a Bible story book to read with children as you also read the story from the Bible.
  • Use resources that include simple theological explanations. I love Strong’s Concordance to help understand the meaning of words translated.
  • Start with words such as love, kindness, grace etc. What does the Bible say about them? How can you illustrate them? Be creative!
  • Remember: parenting is discipleship. You learn together as you go.

The Bible doesn’t need to be fun to be amazing, but you can read in our How to Make the Bible Fun for Kids post ways to engage their creativity to remember God’s Word.

I feel guilty that I’m not doing enough to teach my kids about God.

Oh friend… this one hits deep. I think every homeschool mom feels this because we carry the responsibility of educating our children about the Lord and all the things they need to live and function in this world. Add mom guilt to the party of fears and we have a recipe of constant worry. The best education and example you can give your children to teach them about God is YOU. How you live, respond and walk in faith teaches your children about the Lord more than most Bible studies because they see how the Bible and its ancient stories apply to them today.

Simple solutions:

  • Start with small, grace-filled steps.
  • Remember: You are the example. .
  • Focus on connection—not perfection.
  • Pray together
  • Praise God in the big and little things… and in the hard things.
