Remembering God through creativity

How to Teach the Bible Through Art (Without Overwhelm)

If you’ve ever wanted to teach your children the Bible through art—but felt unsure, unqualified, or overwhelmed—you are not alone. I’ve talked to so many Christian parents, grandparents, homeschool families, and teachers who want creative faith-filled moments with their kids… but fear holds them back. Sometimes even more than 1 fear can be the issue.

Today, we’re walking through the top 10 fears Christian parents have about teaching Bible and art to their children—and simple, grace-filled solutions to each one.

You might see yourself in one (or all!) of these, or think: “I feel overwhelmed,” “I feel unsure,” or “I feel like this isn’t working.”

And that’s okay. You’re not alone. Here’s 10 fears and struggles we hear from parents about teaching Bible and Art to kids and solutions to overcome them.

Top 10 Fears Parents Have About Teaching Bible and Art
(And How to Overcome Them)

We pulled the 10 biggest fears in teaching kids Bible and Art. Let’s chat through them together:

  • “I’m not artistic enough to teach art.”

  • “I don’t want to mess my kids up creatively by controlling them.”

  • “I don’t know how to talk about God naturally.”

  • “I don’t have time for Bible + art.”

  • “My kids are different ages — how do I teach them together?”

  • “Art time turns into chaos or frustration.”

  • “I’m afraid of teaching the Bible incorrectly.”

  • “My kids forget what we learn.”

  • “I can’t stay consistent.”

  • “I want faith to connect to real life, not just worksheets.”

How to choose Bible and art options for kids

“I don’t know where to start—there are too many options.”

Overwhelm is real. You can start combining Bible and Art anywhere, anytime about anything. We love a Bible timeline because it is a guide to stay on a course rather than having to pull together an entire idea. But you can also pick a theme, struggle or even a word as a springboard to creative expression.

Simple solutions:

  • Begin with just one verse, one simple project, and go from there. Illustrate the verse or passage. Paint it. Or recreate the story by drawing a comic book style art.
  • We mentioned a Bible timeline. We have a free Bible timeline you can get in this post and we tell you about how we expanded it with a full Bible resource filled with coloring pages, activities, worksheets and more.
  • Follow a theme or word—like creation, parables, or the life of Jesus. How can you talk and love and make art that expresses love? Maybe you are studying fear. What color best represents fear and what color represents God’s light and truth?

In our coloring pages, we chose a verse based on a theme such as transportation vehicles. Now I know what you’re thinking…. Vehicles aren’t in the Bible, except for chariots, but let’s use creativity. When you see a garbage truck… how can it remind you of Jesus?

A garbage truck takes away the trash.

Jesus takes away our sins… the trash in our life that separates us from God.

Every vehicle has a purpose and so do you!

Not enough time to teach Bible and Art to kids

“I don’t have time to plan lessons.”

Between laundry, meals, schoolwork, and everything in between, lesson planning can feel impossible. We teach homeschoolers in a tutorial co-op, so we know Art and Bible usually get sourced by co-ops and Sunday school at church. School subjects take priority and the most amount of time each week. But you can do simple daily Bible Art lessons that will make huge impacts and transformations that last a lifetime.

Simple solutions:

  • Use done-for-you printables and lessons that require zero prep. We have thousands of coloring pages and worksheets for kids of all ages and levels. Kids can color or dot marker while you read  a passage or discuss a Bible memory verse.
  • Keep a “10-minute art basket” for quick creativity sessions. Kids don’t actually require a lot prep to express their creativity. Just provide them crayons, pencils, markers, watercolors and paper! Include puzzles, coloring pages and word searches.
  • Remember—meaningful doesn’t have to mean complicated.

I’ve been where you are- wanting to teach the Bible creatively, but feeling uncertain about where to start. Over the years, Ive discovered that you don’t need to be a professional artist or have a background in education to make faith-filled art a part of your family’s life. You just need a clear, doable approach that makes creativity feel natural, fun and deeply meaningful.

I’ve already helped countless families and educators unlock faith based creativity- and now I want to help you. Through step by step lessons, engaging projecs and practical resources, I’ll walk alongside you so that bringing the Bible to life through art becomes second nature.

You’re not alone. Let me be your guide.

Teaching multiple ages together

I don’t know how to teach multiple ages at once.

Homeschoolers are used to having multiple ages being taught at home. Sometimes we aren’t sure how to teach everyone all together the same subject. We love a one room school house teaching method, especially in Bible and Art. What we have realized in our classes is the younger kids are inspired by the older kid’s art. They “ooh and ahh” over the works of art because they are impressed by what they see.

In the same respect, the older kids are inspired by the younger kid’s ability to create without all the insecurities and fears developed as we get older.

Yes, the different ages will create different levels of art but their ability to express themselves in their ages will create inspiration. You can read more about how we love teaching multiple ages all together in an all inclusive way.

Simple solutions:

  • Use a single lesson with tiered versions—easy for little ones, detailed for older kids.
  • Let older kids help younger ones; it builds leadership and bonding.
  • Keep projects flexible so kids can add their own level of detail and creative expression.

If you’ve felt any of these fears, you are in good company.
Every parent I talk to shares at least one of these struggles—and often several.

But you don’t have to walk this journey alone.

Through simple creative practices, Bible-connected art lessons, and encouraging resources, you can give your children a faith they see, feel, and remember. Engage every learning style and make the Bible connect in every way possible.

You are doing better than you think. And I’m here to help you every step of the way.
